Picking out a new bike for the kids can be a challenge. You could bring your little angel along to the store for a fitting... but then, if the bike is a gift, there will be no element of surprise. So how do you choose the right bike if your child can't test it out before the big day? Our top tips will help you make the right selection and put your mind at ease.

Every new kids' bike we sell comes with two free tune-ups during the first year of ownership – no charge. We stand behind what we sell, so if you take the bike home and have a problem, just bring it back in and we'll make it right.

The right size

Parents tell us one of their main concerns is getting the bike size right. Mud Dock staff have plenty of experience in helping you make the right choice. Give us a call and we'll help you determine what size is right.

On the Trek kids bike guide you'll see recommended ages for bikes, these are a great starting point. If your child is on the bigger or smaller end of the spectrum Trek bikes have some unique features to tailor a bike so it is the right fit. Trek kids bikes feature the special DIALED settings, which mean several factors can be adjusted, for instance:

• the grips must be right for little hands;
• it's crucial that cranks are the right length;
• saddles the right size and height.

Get prepared

When you give us a call, please be ready with as much detail as possible about your child, how tall they are, their inside leg and so on. Parents want to buy a bike that will last as the child grows. We'll do our best to pick the bike that fits for years, but is still safe to ride now.

Be assured, that if the bike turns out to be not quite right in size, you can bring it back and we'll get the right size sorted, no questions asked.
